What Does Having High Neuroplasticity Mean?

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections throughout life. This ability allows the neurons (nerve cells) in the brain to compensate for injury and disease and to adjust their activities in response to new situations or changes in their environment.

Individuals with high neuroplasticity are able to adapt more easily to change and recover from setbacks more quickly than those with low neuroplasticity. They are also better able to learn new information and skills.

Neuroplasticity declines with age, but there are things that can be done to maintain or even improve it. Some of these include:

staying mentally active and engaged in challenging activities

getting regular exercise

eating a healthy diet

getting enough sleep

So, if you want to give yourself a boost in neuroplasticity, start by making sure you’re staying active both physically and mentally. And, as always, eat right and get plenty of rest!
